The Colt Cobra is a lightweight, aluminum-framed, double-action short-barrelled revolver, not to be confused with the Colt King Cobra. The Cobra was chambered in .38 Special, .38 Colt New Police, .32 Colt New Police, and .22 LR. It holds six shots of ammunition and was sold by Colt from 1950 until 1981.In December 2016, it was announced that Colt would be producing a new run of the Colt with a steel frame and a fiber optic front sight. This model was released in early 2017.
The Colt features a smooth action that offers excellent speed and reset. An advantage of the Colt is the wide rear sight groove and a bright fiber optic front sight. The . 38 Special is a good choice for the average to experienced home defense shooter.
The classic .38 Special Colt 6-shooter was produced from 1950 to 1981. The double-action revolver used a blued aluminum frame, 2” barrel, wooden grip, shrouded ejector rod and a ramp sight. Unloaded, it was a feathery 15 ounces! The architecture was fairly standard with round butt or square butt options, a backward bullet fluted barrel, etc. Other configurations for longer barrels, other ammunition types, etc., were added over the years so one could also purchase the gun in 3”, 4” and 5” barrels. Ammunition choices expanded to cover .38 New Police, .32 Colt New Police and .22 LR ammunition.
